Great demo of the 8 Step Program Analog Expression/CV Sequencer by “JJ Likes Guitar.”

The 8 Step Program plugs into the expression pedal or CV input of other effects pedals and synthesizers delivering rhythmic sequencer control. It can turn an ordinary auto-wah into a step filter, a tremolo into a syncopated pulse effect and a pitch-shifter into an arpeggiator. Here JJ shows what it can do with the Stereo Talking Machine Vocal Formant Filter and the Ring Thing Single Sideband Modulator.

Modern horn players are embracing the way effects pedals help them expand the boundaries of their axes. Whether it’s turning a tenor sax into a baritone, empowering a trombone to play chords, or enabling horn players to create avant-garde soundscapes that were once beyond their reach, EHX is at the fore of this innovation.

Here, saxophonist Geoff Countryman and trombonist Rick Parker explore how the EHX H.O.G.2, Ring Thing and Superego Synth Engine open new doors for the creative horn player.

Prometheus is a 2012 science fiction film directed by Ridley Scott (Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, etc.), Described by some as an Alien prequel, it stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.

Sound mixer, Ron Bartlett, talks about the soundtrack that he and fellow re-recording mixer, Doug Hemphill, worked on.

“When I learned that we were going to mix Prometheus” for Ridley Scott, I was very excited,” adds Bartlett. “I wanted to tie in some of the original aesthetics from the first Alien film. We studied the voice processing of the android character in Alien and re-created that sound very closely. It involved a lot of fun experimenting with various vintage guitar pedals — and some new ones as well.” (source Motion Picture Editors Guild)

One of the pedals was the EHX Ring Thing Single Sideband modulator and another was the Micro POG, Polyphonic Octave Generator. Here are a couple of photos from the Prometheus Blu-Ray Documentary.

Timely Tone TIp for Changing Presets.

People have complained of having to bend down during a performance to change presets on units like the Stereo Memory Man/Hazarai, The Ring Thing, Voice Box and the Cathedral.

What many do not know is that these pedals were ergonomically designed to be controlled by your feet.

The white preset/mode knob is perfectly positioned to be operated by the side of your right foot.

Use the side of your foot to select the preset position. Then carefully tap straight down on the white knob to activate the preset.

With a little practice your feet will be in control. Then you’ll be able to keep your hands where they belong…on the guitar!

Below is a demo video:
